Dion Dublin has claimed that Newcastle United signing Matt Targett is ‘very lucky’ to have avoided serious injury in Saturday’s victory at Brentford.
Newcastle took another major step toward Premier League survival by securing a 2-0 win away to the Londoners.
The Magpies, unbeaten in seven Premier League outings, are one of the division’s strongest outfits based on current form.
However, there’s no doubt that the win was made far easier by a red card for Josh Dasilva after only 11 minutes.
The 23-year-old inflicted a studs-up challenge on the Newcastle left-back, who joined on loan from Aston Villa during the January transfer window.
And Dublin has claimed that this is a tackle that could’ve easily threatened the 26-year-old’s entire career.
He said on BBC’s Final Score: “When you see the replay it looks terrible. It’s potentially a career-ending collision. He is very lucky, Matt Targett, to be walking.”
Where are Newcastle in the Premier League table?
As of this morning, Eddie Howe’s outfit are 14th in the standings.
They’re only four points adrift of the bottom three, which isn’t a massive difference compared to this time last week.
However, there are far more candidates likely to get relegated now in comparison to before.
At the moment, it’s looking like barring an enormous surprise, Newcastle will be winning their relegation battle emphatically.
Targett has been an underrated addition after joining on loan from Steven Gerrard’s troops but in terms of standard, he’s been absolutely immense and with Kieran Trippier already sidelined, another injury for a January signing could’ve been awful.
