Dharmesh Sheth has provided further details over Ashley Young’s impending move to Aston Villa on Sky Sports News.

Villa are expected to land Young on a free transfer from Inter Milan, in what could be a fairytale return for the England international.

Young grew up at Villa and made a name for himself, before going on to win multiple titles at Manchester United and, most recently, Inter.

Sheth has revealed that the Italian side actually wanted to keep the veteran defender.

However, Young apparently feels that Villa are the ‘perfect’ club for him, which is why he turned them down.

“It’s a one-year contract with the option of a further 12 months,” Sheth said.

“Burnley were in advanced negotiations, and there was a strong link with Watford.

“Inter Milan under Simone Inzaghi have offered Young a new one year deal, he spent the last 18 months there.

“But it looks like the reason he wants to forgo the chance to stay at Inter Milan and play Champions League at the age of 36 is because he wants to come back to the UK and be closer to his family and Villa represents the perfect fit.”

Perfect for player and club

The news of Young’s imminent return to Villa has pleased their supporters, who remember his quality from his first stint at the club.

At the age of 36, Young may no longer be viewed as a permanent starter.

But his experience and versatility could be key for Villa in the season ahead, and he should offer them a very solid option as a squad player to cover in multiple positions.
