Manchester United’s Leeds United loanee should have chosen Ajax instead.
Leeds United appeared to have pulled off a coup in August when they signed Manchester United full-back Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.
The move was a bit of a risky one for both parties, considering the 20-year-old’s unsuccessful spell at Wolves last season.
Now two months on, it appears Borthwick-Jackson made a mistake in choosing to join Leeds.
His playing time has been highly limited, and he is third choice left-back behind Gaetano Berardi and Vurnon Anita.
Berardi missed several weeks due to injury at the start of the season and even then Borthwick-Jackson could not establish himself.
There is still hope of course. It is a long season and even in the final few weeks, Borthwick-Jackson could have a prominent role to play in the promotion run in if he works hard and circumstances fall his way.
But it is hard to say that starring in Holland’s top flight does not seem a more appealing option than often even failing to make the Leeds United bench.
Manchester United would be right to be concerned about his lack of progress.
Borthwick-Jackson could well be sitting on the Ajax bench too at this point, but he is entitled to wonder if he made an error in choosing another Championship switch.
