Ben Davies was left out of Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat at Leicester City this afternoon.
The January signing hasn’t yet played for the Reds but the trip to King Power could’ve represented a chance for his debut.
However, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that he picked up an injury in training.
Speaking before the game, Klopp said to BT Sport: “It was a good training week for Ozan. Ben Davies picked up a little knock as well – it is unbelievable.”
And Klopp hit the nail on the head – it is unbelievable.
The reason why Davies was signed by Liverpool in the first place is because Klopp’s side are enduring an unprecedented injury crisis with regards to centre-back options.
Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez won’t play again this season, while midifelder Fabinho, who had been impressing in central defence for most of the campaign, is also absent.
So for the emergency centre-back addition to actually join those players in the treatment room is, quite simply, absolutely rotten luck.
This defeat pretty much confirmed that Liverpool won’t be retaining their Premier League title, understandable as it is.
The Anfield side are 10 points behind a Manchester City side with two games in hand and clawing back that deficit with half-a-defence is just so implausible.
