Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has suggested on the club’s official website that Georginio Wijnaldum could still sign a new contract.
Wijnaldum is out of contract at Liverpool this summer, and no new deal is in place.
Klopp has raved about the Netherlands international midfielder, who cost Liverpool £25 million when they signed him from Newcastle United in 2016, as reported by BBC Sport.
The German told Liverpool’s official website: “Gini Wijnaldum. An LFC legend now and forever. What this person – this wonderful, joyful, selfless person – has done for our team and club I cannot sum up in words, in truth, because my English is not good enough.
“He is an architect of our success. We have built this Liverpool on his legs, lungs, brain and his huge, beautiful heart. If – and it is still if – he goes, he does so knowing we as his teammates are eternally grateful for having this special human being come into our lives. I love him and he will always be family.”
Klopp clearly rates Wijnaldum highly, and it seems that the Liverpool midfielder could still stay at Anfield.
Of course, with the final game of the season to be played today and with no new deal signed, it does seem unlikely.

However, stranger things have happened in football.
Wijnaldum has not said for sure that he is leaving, and no deal has officially been signed with another club.
The Dutchman is 30 now, but he is still at the top of his game and remains an important player in the team.
Wijnaldum has been a huge player for Liverpool over the years, and has played key roles in the Merseyside club winning the Premier League title and the Champions League.
Liverpool fans will echo Klopp’s sentiments about Wijnaldum, and maybe, just maybe, the Netherlands international will come to an agreement with the club and extend his stay at Anfield.
