Managers are turning down Tottenham Hotspur left, right and centre.
Tottenham need a new head coach after Daniel Levy fired Jose Mourinho 12 days ago.
But Brendan Rodgers revealed this week that he had ‘no interest’ in replacing Mourinho at Spurs, while Julian Nagelsmann, Levy’s reported top choice, has been confirmed as Bayern Munich’s next boss.
And in Italy, ESPN reported this week that Maurizio Sarri, another one reportedly on Levy’s shortlist, is about to join Roma.
Another name to turn down Tottenham is American coach Jesse Marsch.
Marsch has been appointed Nagelsmann’s successor at Red Bull Leipzig and Kicker in Germany reported that the 47-year-old turned down the North London club in favour of the Bundesliga outfit.
Considering he was New York Red Bulls boss as recently as 2018, this is one heck of a step forward for Marsch in what is his biggest job to date.
Here’s what former USA international Herculez Gomez told ESPN about the appointment.
He said: “This is pretty cool to see and honestly, seeing him from then until now, I expected it [success as manager]. It is insane to see the trajectory of Jesse Marsch.
“It doesn’t surprise me one bit and it’s a historic moment for US soccer. This is the moment where they realise there’s talent not only at a player level. This is bigger for me than an American player playing at Barcelona.”
