Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Chris Sutton has been discussing Leeds United and their fans’ treatment of Jesse Marsch.
The Whites have been in awful form as of late. They’ve not won any of their last eight league games, and fans are beginning to turn on the manager.
Indeed, United supporters were singing ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’ at Elland Road last weekend, while the most prominent view on social media is that the American needs to leave the club.
A bad result against Liverpool this weekend could seal his fate, but despite being on the verge of the sack, Chris Sutton believes that the Elland Road faithful have treated him rather harshly.

Sutton on Leeds fans
The pundit gave his view on how Marsch is being treated.
“I don’t think Leeds’ poor form is all on Jesse Marsch, and I think it is harsh that the fans have turned on him as quickly as they have done, but they really need a positive result at Anfield,” Sutton wrote.
Harsh?
It’s never nice seeing anyone in danger of losing their job, it’s hard to say that Leeds fans have been harsh with Marsch.
The reality is that this is the nature of being a football manager. If you fail to win in eight league games and put your team in danger of relegation, you’re going to be blamed.
Yes, individual errors haven’t helped Marsch, but his tactics are failing to provide results and his team selection is borderline baffling at times – why hasn’t Joe Gelhardt been starting?
Leeds fans haven’t been supportive of Marsch by any stretch of the imagination, but they’ve not been what would be described as ‘harsh’.
