Lee Dixon has heaped praised on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg on Amazon Prime and claimed that the Tottenham midfielder has been ‘one of the best signings of the season’.

The former England defender also claimed that Hojbjerg has improved his Tottenham teammates Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld.

Whilst Hojbjerg would have been annoyed at Spurs dropping more points against Fulham on Wednesday, overall, he has been outstanding since his summer move.

Dixon, whilst admitting that it ‘hurts’ him to say it, raved about the impact Hojbjerg has had on Spurs.

“It hurts me quite a lot to say that he is one of the best signings of the season,” said Dixon. “But he has been a [top-quality signing].

“He is exactly what Tottenham needed. What it’s done as well is that he’s not only improved that midfield, but he has also improved the two CB’s behind him.

“If you ask Dier about his positioning when the ball is coming towards their back four. He [Hojbjerg] is in the position. We see him go out to the wing to help his full-backs. We also see him dropping in between the two CB’s.

“He’s covering an awful lot of grass and he just puts his foot in at the right moment. I think he has been a brilliant signing.”

One of the main reasons why Hojbjerg has thrived at Tottenham is because he is a near-perfect fit for Jose Mourinho’s system.

The £15 million man’s [Goal] style suits Mourinho’s aggressive, combative and no-nonsense ways.

It could be argued that he needs that technician, progressive and forward-thinking passer next to him in order to take Tottenham’s midfield to another level – perhaps his international teammate, Christian Eriksen?
