Roy Keane said on Sky Sports Premier League (7:20pm, December 20, 2020) that he does not mind Harry Kane dropping deep for Tottenham Hotspur.
The Manchester United legend made the comments about Kane in response to Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink saying that the England international should be deployed as a ‘striker’.
Under Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho this season, Kane has often dropped deep to play as a number 10, with Son Heung-min playing upfront instead.
It has worked well for the North London club so far this season, although in the past week, Spurs lost to Liverpool and Leicester City in the Premier League.
Former Leeds United and Chelsea striker Hasselbaink believes that Kane should be played as the main striker, but Keane does not seem to agree with changing the current roles of the England international and his Spurs teammate Son.
Hasselbaink said on Sky Sports Premier League (7:20pm, December 20, 2020): “Harry Kane coming in way too deep, way too often, I don’t like it. You have got the best striker in the country, maybe in the world, out-and-out striker dropping deep. Why?”
Keane responded: “I don’t mind. You have got to obviously find different ways to try and win a game of football. You would want your main striker in the box more often than not, but it has worked for Tottenham so far over the season with lots of assists.”
Stats
According to WhoScored, Kane has scored nine goals and provided 10 assists in 14 Premier League matches for Tottenham so far this season.
Son has scored 11 goals and provided four assists in 14 league games for Spurs so far this campaign, according to WhoScored.
