Roy Keane referenced the hostile reception he used to receive as a Manchester United player when playing away at Leeds following the protests at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Manchester United’s home tie with Liverpool was postponed after fans entered the Old Trafford pitch to vent their anger towards the Glazer ownership.

There were a select few of ‘idiots’ who took it too far, including ‘throwing bottles’, as Keane mentioned such instances occurring when he would play Leeds at Elland Road, as he told Sky Sports on Super Sunday.

The Premier League legend was responding to comments from Graeme Souness, who claimed that somebody could have been ‘killed’ when a flare and beer can were seemingly thrown towards the gantry where Sky Sports were reporting the game from.

“But at any protests, you are going to get idiots,” said Keane. “You are going to get that.

“Who is applauding it? Nobody has applauded any of these fans for throwing bottles or throwing cars over in Manchester. Nobody’s applauding that.

“We have all travelled to games. We have gone to Elland Road. Where people have been throwing bottles and stuff when you are on the bus or getting off. It happens.”

Leeds have had their fair share of troubles with ownership, much worse than what the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal are suffering now.

They had to spend nearly two decades away from the wilderness, and whilst they went down some tough roads, including going to League One, they are back on track now.

Leeds and Man United fans may not see eye-to-eye, but one thing they would agree on is football supporters in this country need the power back into their hands, rather than all of it in the hands of their rich owners.
