Jonjoe Kenny has been speaking to Transfermarkt about a number of topics, amid what has been a difficult time for the defender at Everton this season.
What’s the story?
Well, the £15,000-a-week Everton man spoke about his tough time on loan at Celtic last season, and also sent his best wishes to Marcel Brands.
Additionally, Kenny discussed his lack of playing time under Rafa Benitez this term, and admitted that it “drives him crazy” to be left out.
The 24-year-old said: “I hate not being able to play, and it drives me crazy not being on the pitch at the moment. The only thing I can do at the moment is to give everything and keep myself at the best level.”
Kenny has only played ten minutes of football in the Premier League this season, as he finds himself behind Seamus Coleman in the pecking order.
The Everton No.2 has also started two Carabao Cup games, although you can understand why he’s becoming a bit frustrated with life at Goodison Park.
It comes after Kenny only made nine Scottish Premiership starts for Celtic last season.
Jonjoe Kenny must leave Everton
The Toffees have had many managerial changes since Kenny broke into the first-team in 2014, and very few of them have given the right-back much playing time.
Only in 2017/18, under both Ronald Koeman and Sam Allardyce, did Kenny get an extended run in the starting XI, making 17 Premier League starts.
Now, we feel he needs a fresh start away from Everton – not a loan move.
Kenny impressed at Schalke 04 in 2019/20, where he made 31 Bundesliga starts, so he’s clearly capable of being a solid top-flight player.
It doesn’t feel as if Everton is the place for Kenny to kick on with his career, and at the age of 24, he needs to be playing regularly.
If we were in his shoes, we’d ask Benitez for a move.
Kenny is better than his role as a deputy for Coleman, and it’s time for him to forge his own path away from Goodison Park.
