Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that he ‘forgot’ Liverpool and Chelsea were due to play each other today, as he told his pre-match press conference on Wednesday.
Everton could move into the top-four later on today if they beat West Brom, with both Liverpool and Chelsea facing off hours later.
If the Toffees do pick up three points, they will move into those lucrative Champions League places for the time being.
And if they want to stay there then they best hope Liverpool and Chelsea bore each other to death with a draw.
Nonetheless, Ancelotti was asked in his presser about his comments after Monday’s win against Southampton where he stated that he was ‘keen’ to win against WBA so he can ‘touch the top-four’ not knowing that he would be dethroned hours later.
“I forgot there was that game,” said Ancelotti. “Maybe Liverpool or Chelsea can be the top-four. But it doesn’t matter.
“We want to be there. We want to get three points. Just to see how we feel. Apart from this, I think three points are important to stay in that fight.
“I am sure the situation of the European position will be decided at the last game and we want to be there at the last game.
“If we are able to be there until the last game then it could be good for us.”

It’s going to be a clash of two German coaches on Merseyside with Jurgen Klopp coming up against his fellow countryman Thomas Tuchel.
Whilst the blue half of Merseyside understand that they have to do their job in the Midlands, it could be argued that a draw at Anfield suits those at Goodison.
At this moment in time, Everton are level on points with their neighbours and one point behind Chelsea, with the duo having played a game extra than the Toffees, but their goal difference is much better.
Given how tight it is in those European places, both Liverpool and Chelsea may find that their strong GD may fall in their favour at the end of the campaign.
