Tim Sherwood has stated that ‘it doesn’t make sense’ for James Tarkowski to join Newcastle United from Burnley, as he told Premier League Productions (09/12/21 at 12:50 pm)
The former Premier League-winning captain pointed out that Burnley are ‘in trouble themselves’, so they wouldn’t sell one of their star players to the now-big pockets of Newcastle.
Last Saturday, the Magpies picked up their first win of the season when they beat Burnley 1-0 at St James’ Park.
Both teams are sitting in the relegation zone and they could climb out it at the weekend, if they secure three points and results go their way.
But given Newcastle’s troubles, one of the ways they can get out of their current mess is by signing top-quality players in Janaury.
Tarkowski has been a player that has been mentioned to bolster the defensive side of their game, but Sherwood can’t see it happening.
“Who wants to go there,” said Sherwood. “The players are going to have to sign clauses in their contracts where they can leave if they get relegated.
“Who would go other than that? He needs players to hit the ground running. Tarkowski is a player we all talk about.
“Why would Burnley, who are in trouble themselves, sell to Newcastle? It doesn’t make sense. You want Premier League players.”

There is still plenty of games, from now until January, for the Magpies to get out of the relegation zone and make life easier for them.
If they are out of danger by the time the winter transfer window re-opens, then they can probably lure a few more players to their club that weren’t probably previously keen.
Either way, Eddie Howe has to, first and foremost, get the best out of his current squad before dreaming of transfer targets.
Like he is currently doing with Joelinton, if he can bring the best out of a player like him, then it will only make the squad much better.
