Jamie Carragher says ‘it doesn’t feel like‘ Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are that same previously-dominant team as they failed to capitalise on Arsenal’s defeat at Goodison Park.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal wouldn’t have celebrated many Spurs games before, but on Sunday, with Harry Kane breaking Tottenham’s all-time leading goalscoring record, he would have been jumping with joy in the living room, alongside anyone else associated with the current Premier League leaders.
That’s because Manchester City, who are five points behind the Gunners, failed to close that gap to two points after their 1-0 defeat to Tottenham, which would have made the world of difference, especially with their meeting coming up.
Not many expected it, but Arsenal had a rare off-day on Saturday when Sean Dyche-inspired Everton recorded a 1-0 win against the London club.
The limelight firmly turned to Manchester City. Could they close that gap? Are Arsenal going to fumble? Is this the moment Guardiola’s side stick out their chest and prove to the world why they have won four out of the five league titles?
Well, as Carragher touched upon during his commentary duty for Spurs v Man City, it doesn’t seem to be the case, as he told Sky Sports (05/02/23).
“We have all been speaking about in the past few weeks, you (Gary Neville) felt it was too early,” said Carragher.
“Can Arsenal win the league? The thing with Manchester City. We all keep expecting them to keep coming back into it. But it doesn’t feel like you are seeing the same Manchester City that you are seeing before.
“Can they get that form back and go on them big runs and victories to get themselves back up alongside Arsenal?!”

It’s as you were from the start of the weekend. Arsenal have a five-point lead at the top.
It also needs to be remembered that they have a game in hand, if they win that, added to their meeting with Manchester City, then the gap could be 11 points in next to no time.
That’s a pretty incredible position to be in and there is every chance that it could happen.
