Simon Jordan has tipped Newcastle United to bring Sam Allardyce back to the club for their fight against relegation from the Premier League.
Newcastle are on the hunt for a new boss after parting ways with Steve Bruce on Wednesday morning.
Bruce’s last game was a 3-2 defeat at home to Tottenham – a result that leaves the club 19th in the Premier League table and winless from eight games.
Despite Saudi Public Investment Fund completing their takeover earlier this month, with a wealth of £320 billion, there’s a long road ahead for the North-East giants and staying in the top flight has to be the top priority.
Allardyce is unpopular among many Newcastle fans following his ill-fated spell in charge early on during Mike Ashley’s reign, which began when the 67-year-old was already in charge.
But with the veteran English manager being an escape artist with regards to relegation, Jordan has told talkSPORT that United might well need him back, arguing that Graeme Jones, who’s in charge of the team on an interim basis now, is nowhere near qualified enough.
In response to colleague Jim White revealing that the club would be focusing on hiring an English manager until the end of the season, Jordan said: “It does look like somebody like Sam Allardyce or that ilk, which might bring in a sharp intake of breath, but you need someone to get you away from this conundrum.
“Graeme Jones is not the answer because he’s not a manager he’s a coach.”
Bizzare
Despite his unpopularity among the Geordie faithful, Allardyce was bizarrely actually quite successful.
Well, relative to other managers during the Ashley era, that is.
With a win percentage of 33.33 percent, the 67-year-old was actually Newcastle’s second-most successful coach during this period, with only Alan Pardew boasting a higher victory rate [37.66 percent].
Still, this speaks volumes about how dismal the Ashley era was and Amanda Staveley and PIF will demand much more from head coaches going forward.
