Liverpool have been backed to sign a Manchester United player.

According to The Manchester Evening News, the Anfield outfit are among the teams interested in luring Marcus Rashford to Merseyside from Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old has only started 10 Premier League outings for the Red Devils this season.

The majority of those have come since Ralf Rangnick replaced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on an interim basis.

Liverpool might be in the market for a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah, whose contract at Anfield expires in the summer of 2023.

And former Reds goalkeeper David James believes that it could happen, claiming that Rashford is a ‘tremendously underused resource’ at their bitter English rivals.

He told GGRecon: “Age-wise, he’s young enough now that if he had to move somewhere else before going to Liverpool, in some kind of long-term plan, then it could happen. However, because of the age he is now, now would be the time to get him. Marcus Rashford is a tremendously underused resource with Manchester United.

“In a theoretical world, if you took the rivalry out of the equation, I would snap him up straight away. I think he could be a valuable asset to Liverpool.”

Despite coming through United’s academy, and being fiercely popular among their supporters for a number of community-related improvements that he has personally overseen, Rashford would burn his bridges with a major chunk of the fanbase if he does join Liverpool.

Even if Jurgen Klopp’s side weren’t one of the best teams in England, it would be considered a problem.

But considering that the Reds are not only one of the best in the Premier League, but Europe as a whole, well suffice to say that supporters of the Old Trafford outfit would loathe to see him sign for Liverpool.

At the moment it’s merely speculation and in all probability nothing will come of it, but James has certainly bolted down his opinion here.
