Leeds United were one of the many club in attendance in last night’s UEFA Champions League match between Benfica and FC Barcelona to have a scout present.
The Independent’s Melissa Reddy posted an image on Twitter listing the clubs that were in the stands for the clash between the two giants. And amongst the huge names of Europe of such as Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Blackburn Rovers, was Leeds.
Indeed, it is very common for scouts from all top European clubs to have scouts scattered across the continent to watch upcoming talents. Yet this little peek behind the curtain was an interesting glimpse into which teams view.
Moreover, with Leeds in the Premier League, it makes sense for the Yorkshire side to send a scout to Champions League games. Marcelo Bielsa has made an impressive array of signings in recent years for players with experience in Europe’s top competition.
Whilst it is impossible to judge which player the scout from Leeds was watching, supporters on social media are already theorising who the player in question was.
After all, Barcelona are in dire financial problems and have effectively put every player at the club for sale. Meaning that there are bargains to be had for any side with owners willing to invest, such as Leeds.
