Leeds United beat Aston Villa 2-0 on Saturday evening.

Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has told the club’s official website that he felt Leeds’ first goal gave the home crowd at Elland Road a real lift during Saturday’s game between the two sides.

Villa travelled to Elland Road on Saturday evening for a meeting between two of the Championship’s form teams, as Villa had gone seven unbeaten with four wins and three draws under new boss Bruce, whilst Leeds had won four of their previous five games.

After a tight first half, Leeds did go in front in the second period as Kemar Roofe headed into an empty goal after beating Pierluigi Gollini to a cross, before Chris Wood made it 2-0 in the latter stages of the game.

The win took Leeds up into fourth place in the Championship table as they continue to excel under Garry Monk, whilst also brought an end to Villa’s unbeaten run under Bruce’s stewardship.

Leeds have now lost just one game at Elland Road in almost three months, and that came against Championship leaders Newcastle United last month, with Huddersfield Town the last visiting team to win at Elland Road way back on September 10th.

Monk is now turning Elland Road into a real fortress for his impressive Leeds side, and a bumper crowd of more than 32,000 were in great voice as they roared Leeds onto the 2-0 win over Villa.

After the game, Villa boss Steve Bruce spoke to the club’s official website, and felt that Leeds got a break with a poor goal to concede from Villa’s perspective – and that gave the home faithful a real life.

Bruce added that, when the Leeds fans are behind their time, it becomes difficult to get a result, and suggested that his side were disappointing in their response, and just one mistake cost them at Elland Road.

“I think they had a break, we’ve made mistake and they’ve scored. It’s a poor goal from our point of view,” said Bruce. “That gives everybody a lift of course. When the crowd get behind them as they do here, then it becomes difficult.”

“The response from us for the last 15 minutes in particular, we chased the game and became a bit disappointing. Up until the goal there was nothing really in it. We had the better chances, didn’t take them and we’ve made a mistake which has ultimately cost us,” he added.
