Issa Diop has been linked with both Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal recently.

Diop – who Mundo Deportivo suggest is also on the radar of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Inter Milan – is already the captain of the Ligue 1 side at the age of 21 and appears to have a very bright future ahead of him.

Mundo Deportivo added that Tottenham and Arsenal appear to be leading the current charge to sign the centre-back. So if it does come down to the two North London rivals for the youngster’s signature, he may feel that he has a difficult choice to make.
Of the pair, the Gunners appear in greater need of making significant changes to their defensive options in the near future, with their record much worse than Spurs’ this term, and none of their centre-back options really standing out as being particularly impressive at the moment.

Diop may therefore feel that there is a greater chance of enjoying a prominent first-team role more immediately if he moves to the Emirates. But their defensive frailties are exactly the reason why he should pick Spurs over joining Arsene Wenger’s men if given the chance.
Tottenham have a much more settled defensive unit and appear to have plans laid out for when the pairing of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld begin to decline, with Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth now in the mix.
That structure would surely make it a lot easier for Diop to realise his full potential in the future, even if he does not initially enjoy the amount of first-team that he would prefer. And the prospect would be working with and learning from two of the division’s finest centre-backs over the past few years if he joined Mauricio Pochettino’s men.
Arsenal’s back four is arguably threatening to need an entire overhaul right now, so joining them would be a gamble for Diop that may only pay off if they make drastic changes at the back. And given Wenger’s record when it comes to buying defenders, expecting those drastic changes to come anytime soon may be wishful thinking.
