West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing the Croatian.
West Ham have made a €22 million (£19.7 million) bid for Besiktas centre-back Domagoj Vida, according to Turkish media outlet Aksam, and the Croatian would be the ideal central defensive partner for Issa Diop.
The 29-year-old impressed for Croatia at the World Cup in Russia this summer, showcasing his very own unique brand of no-nonsense defending, and he is seemingly ideally suited to the roust nature of the Premier League.
Vida is vastly experienced in playing at the very highest level for such a sustained period of time, and that could prove to be vital for West Ham this season, in helping Diop fulfil his undoubted potential.
The young Frenchman joined the Hammers from Toulouse this summer, in a deal believed to be worth in the region of £22 million, but at the age of just 21, he might very well find the transition from Ligue 1 to the Premier League a difficult one to manage.
Vida’s wealth of experience would surely help Diop adjust to life in England, however, and the duo would surely form an impressive partnership at the heart of West Ham’s defence.
The Besiktas centre-back is tenacious in the tackle and is a great reader of the game, qualities that would make him the ideal central defensive partner for Diop, and if Manuel Pellegrini does manage to bring him to the London Stadium this summer, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance for the Hammers.
