Andy Carroll is nearing a return to the West Ham United side after overcoming an ankle injury.
Carroll is yet to make a competitive appearance this term due to an ankle injury. He is nearing a return to the Hammers side and featured for 45 minutes in the international break clash with Brentford.
Given his track record, some Irons supporters will have to be convinced that Carroll can be relied upon. But Diop admitted that the problems that the 29-year-old is causing on the training ground leaves him feeling optimistic about the impact that the striker will make.
“It’s good training against Andy, because he is an international player. He is difficult to play against because he is big and physical and it’s good for the team that he is fit again,” he told the club’s official website.
“He will give us a different option and he’s very good inside the box.”
In fairness to Carroll, his quality when he is at his best cannot be questioned. If Pellegrini’s men play to his strengths, then he could prove to be a fantastically dangerous option for the Hammers over the rest of the campaign.
Of course, it has become a gamble to put too much faith in Carroll. The £15 million signing (via BBC Sport) has made 90 Premier League appearances since arriving permanently in 2013.
But if Carroll is able to enjoy some luck when it comes to his fitness when he does make his return, then West Ham will have a brilliant option up their sleeve to unleash.
