Jamie Carragher has said on Sky Sports Premier League (5:40pm, November 20, 2021) that Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu is similar to him.
Carragher made the comments about Tomiyasu while watching him in action for Arsenal against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday evening.
The former Liverpool defender was on co-commentary duty for the Premier League match on Sky Sports.
Liverpool won 4-0.
Carragher said in the 10th minute: “Tomiyasu is a real defender, isn’t he? Sometimes you get full-backs who are more wingers, but he is one of those who falls into the category that I was in, when I played full-back, maybe I could go and play as centre-back.”

Tomiyasu has established himself as the first-choice right-back at Arsenal.
The Japan international, who joined the Gunners in the summer transfer window, is able to play as a centre-back as well.
But at Arsenal, for the moment at least, the 23-year-old is playing as a right-back.
And he is doing pretty well.
The Arsenal no. 18 has made nine appearances in the Premier League for the Gunners so far this season.
Tomiyasu has won six of them and lost just one.
The defender has provided 12 crosses and 17 accurate long balls.
Tomiyasu is not exactly one of the most attacking full-backs, but defensively he is very solid.
Arsenal have made a really good signing in the Japanese player.
And he is only going to improve.
After all, Tomiyasu is just 23.
