Some Liverpool fans on Twitter aren’t crazy about the idea of Tottenham Hotspur hiring Steven Gerrard.
It has been two months since Spurs fired Jose Mourinho and Daniel Levy still hasn’t hired a replacement.
Negotiations with the likes of Mauricio Pochettino, Antonio Conte and Paulo Fonseca have broken down in recent weeks.
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported today that Nuno Espirito Santo is in advanced discussions but, according to The Standard, the Liverpool icon – and Rangers manager – is also in the running.
Gerrard, arguably the most adored player to ever pull on the Reds shirt, helped Rangers to a first Scottish Premiership title in a decade this past season, ending Celtic’s dominance north of the border.
Here’s how some Liverpool fans reacted on Twitter to the idea of Tottenham hiring him.
Too soon
It’s way too early for Gerrard to join Spurs, if we’re honest.
The 41-year-old has only been in senior management since 2018 and although he won a league title at Ibrox this past season, more is needed to qualify for the role in North London.
Barring promotion, Nuno didn’t win anything at Wolverhampton Wanderers, but he still has much more Premier League experience than the legendary Liverpool manager as far as management goes.
Besides, who’s to say Gerrard would be tempted?
If he goes back to English football in a coaching capacity, you would think it’ll be for the Liverpool job, but if he takes the Tottenham position and makes a mess of it, there goes his chances of succeeding Jurgen Klopp.
