Watford will be without two of their star strikers for Saturday’s home game against Bournemouth.

Quique Sanchez Flores the head coach

Watford are desperate for a win in the Premier League. Just four points on the board after nine games has left them stuck at the bottom of the league table but a win against the Cherries on Saturday could see them go level on points with Norwich City who face Manchester United.

Quique Sanchez Flores has a lot to consider ahead of the game in terms of team selection with a number of players struggling with injuries. The draw against Tottenham cost Watford yet another player with Danny Welbeck going down injured in the first few minutes of the game.

Welbeck joins captain Troy Deeney in the treatment room which leaves Flores with just Andre Gray as his only available striker. Gerard Deulofeu has been used in the centre-forward role before but the Spaniard is a lot more effective on the flanks.

Flores told the Watford Observer after September’s international break that he sees summer signing Ismaila Sarr in a central position rather than in his natural wide role. If the Watford boss seriously considered that option, Sarr might well be the favourite to start alongside Gray at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

Sarr has only started once in the league so far this season but he did manage to score in his first start in the EFL Cup against Coventry City at the end of August. The Senegalese international scored 13 goals and provided 11 assists in all competitions last season and he also participated in the African Cup of Nations in the summer which cost him a proper pre-season.

However, after limited game time over the last two months, Sarr should be raring to go. Gray’s ability to hold the ball up and bring people into play combined with the former Rennes man’s pace and directness could prove to be a deadly combination and it could be one that brings Watford out of the massive hole that they are in.
