Newcastle United do not want to sell Isaac Hayden amid interest from Southampton and Watford, according to The Athletic.

What’s the story?

It has been reported by The Athletic that Newcastle want to keep Hayden.

The former Arsenal defensive midfielder is under contract at the Magpies until 2026.

The Daily Mail reported this week that Southampton are interested in signing the 26-year-old and are in talks over a transfer.

The Sun reported earlier this month that Watford are interested in Hayden.

Sensible stance?

Hayden is a very good player and is an asset for Newcastle.

Yes, the former Arsenal prospect is not the best technically, but he does his job well.

The 26-year-old works hard in the middle of the park, is effective and combative, and is not shy of making important tackles and challenges.

The Newcastle no.14 made 22 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League last season.

The defensive midfielder scored one goal and gave two assists in 26 league starts for the Magpies in 2019-20.

If Newcastle do end up selling Hayden in the summer transfer window, then they have to make sure that they sign a suitable replacement.
