Isaac Hayden may have moved closer to a Newcastle United exit, after his red card against Cardiff City.

Hayden has been linked with a move away all summer, but was handed a chance by Rafael Benitez against Cardiff.

The midfielder wasted his chance to impress though, after being sent off for a rash tackle.

And Hayden’s actions may well have convinced Benitez that selling the 23-year-old would be the best option.

Benitez’s trust in Hayden may well have been dented after the midfielder’s actions at the weekend.

Hayden was only ever likely to be a reserve player this term, but after such a show of indiscipline, it would be hard to put him back in again.

Of course, Hayden’s rashness may have stemmed from simply having too much desire to make an impact, but he will always be under that sort of pressure now.

And it could be that Newcastle would be better off letting Hayden go and promoting Sean Longstaff up the selection order.
