The Newcastle United new boy has admitted something about Arsenal
Newcastle United new boy Isaac Hayden has admitted via The Chronicle that he needed to quit Arsenal for the sake of his career.
The 21-year-old defender, who first joined the Gunners at the age of 13, left the North London club to join Newcastle on a five-year deal today.
Hayden only started two senior games during his stint with Arsenal – both in the Capital One Cup – but has proven himself a capable defender in the Championship following a stint with Hull City last term.
He will be back in England’s second tier this season as he bids to help his new club bounce straight back to the Premier League, but the young centre-back – who can also operate in midfield – concedes that he had to join United rather than waste precious time on the periphery of things at Arsenal.
“Being at Arsenal was a great experience, I learnt a lot there and have a lot to thank them for, but I needed to move on and so when Newcastle came in for me I jumped at the chance,” he said to the club’s official website, via The Chronicle.
“I am still young but I want to get as many games under my belt as I can and help the team bounce back to the Premier League.”
He is certainly needed more at Newcastle than he was at Arsenal, with Magpies boss Rafael Benitez losing centre-halves Fabricio Coloccini and Steven Taylor already.
The Spaniard is also believed to be interested in bringing Blackburn Rovers defender Grant Hanley to Tyneside, according to The Chronicle.
