West Ham are interested in Hoffenheim boss Julian Nagelsmann replacing Slaven Bilic as manager but surely Bayern Munich will be his next club?
Slaven Bilic, manager of West Ham United, speaks with Manuel Lanzini after he was substituted during the Premier League match against Brighton and Hove Albion.
The future of Slaven Bilic as West Ham United manager has been thrown into serious doubt following the 3-0 home defeat to newly promoted Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League.
It has lead the Express to report that highly rated Hoffenheim boss Julian Nagelsmann is being lined up by the Hammers to replace Bilic in the dugout.
Hoffenheim’s head coach Julian Nagelsmann walks on the pitch during the warm-up ahead of the German First division Bundesliga football match against VfL Wolfsburg.
Yet Nagelsmann has been heavily linked with Bayern Munich and was the among the favourites to succeed Carlo Ancelotti at the Allianz Arena when the Italian was sacked in September.
In the end veteran Jupp Heynckes was brought in for his fourth spell at Bayern, agreeing to take charge of first team affairs until the end of the season, but the 72-year-old believes that the young coach will be with the reigning Bundesliga champions in the near future.
Bayern Munich’s head coach Jupp Heynckes reacts during the Champions League group B match against Celtic.
“Perhaps it would be good to stay at Hoffenheim for a few more years and gain some experience in Europe,” Heynckes told German publication Rhein Neckar Zeitung.
“You can still make mistakes at a smaller club. One day he will end up at Bayern Munich anyway.”
Therefore, would Nagelsmann give up the chance to return to Munich – a city he calls ‘home’ – and take charge of one of the biggest clubs in Europe to try and get West Ham out of relegation battle and back on track?
It is made all the more unlikely because Heynckes is only with the Bavarians until next summer and the 30-year-old could well be in the frame once again in just seven months time.
