Tyler Roberts is yet to kick a ball for Leeds United due to injury.

It looks increasingly likely that Leeds United fans won’t see Tyler Roberts until next season.

The 19-year-old striker joined Leeds from West Bromwich Albion in a deal which could reach £4 million in January but injury has prevented him from making a debut for the Whites as of yet.

Bigger picture, though, it might be a good thing that Roberts hasn’t been fit to begin his Elland Road career this season.

It has been a dreadful second half of the season for a United side that have only won three Championship games in 2018, a run of form that has destroyed their promotion prospects.

Not only is Roberts unproven in the Championship, he is still only a teenager, but both facts would have been ignored on the basis that he could cost Leeds a cool £4 million.

His price-tag meant that there would have been plenty of pressure on him to be an immediate hit in the Championship and, considering the struggles of his team-mates, that may have been a huge ask.

His confidence might have been destroyed had he struggled under the weight of expectation at Leeds, but there is likely to be several more big-money signings who will take the spotlight off him in time for next season and that could be just what he needs.
