Tottenham Hotspur take on Juventus this evening in a pivotal Champions League last 16 clash.

The Italian champions’ mean defence against Tottenham’s freescoring striker Harry Kane is going to be one of the key battles, but there are plenty more matchwinners on both sides.

One of these is Juventus winger Douglas Costa, who was linked strongly with signing for Tottenham in the summer – The Mirror reported they were considering a £30 million swoop for the Brazilian.

Tottenham either lost focus or were simply out manoeuvred for his signature by Juventus, who struck an impressive loan to buy deal with Bayern Munich.

Spurs have since signed Lucas Moura but he has not played a single minute for the club yet, and Costa is in the midst of an impressive but not quite yet spectacular season.

Costa has provided six assists so far for Juventus and scored three times, and offers Juventus a different option in attack with his willingness to take on players.

Former Juventus star Mauro Camoranesi has tipped him as a potential matchwinner, quoted by Juve Live: “Douglas Costa can be decisive.

“He has the ability to change the pace, creating the numerical advantage for the team, a feature that I really like.”

If Costa’s numbers this season do not scream ‘mistake’ on Totenham’s part, then a key contribution this evening might.

Spurs will have to defend cautiously against the tricky winger to ensure their decision not to sign him does not come back to bite them.
