The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has recently been linked with a potential move to Manchester United.

At 35 years of age, Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has been showing his class this season. The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, who joined the Red Devils back in 2006 under Sir Alex Ferguson, has been a classy operator for United over the last eleven years, filling a vital role between the defence and the midfield.

However, despite his continued good form, United cannot ignore the player’s age for much long, and are likely keen to start looking for a potential successor to Carrick this summer. And after a recent report from the Daily Star, it looks like Manchester United could be targeting another player from Tottenham Hotspur for this role.

According to the report, Jose Mourinho is keen to bring Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier to Old Trafford next season, and will try to tempt the England international away from Spurs by doubling his wages. Dier, who joined Tottenham Hotspur from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon in 2014, has played a vital part in the clubs march up the table into second place.

A defensive midfielder who carries many similar attributes to United’s Michael Carrick, Eric Dier appears to be just the type of player Jose Mourinho needs this summer. Strong, defensively sound and able to spray the ball around the park as well as any one in the Premier League this season, Dier has reminded many at White Hart Lane of their former man, Carrick, and his ability from a dead-ball situation has been highlighted both at club and international level.

But with Manchester United’s season not yet finished, and their future playing in the Champions League not yet secured, the club currently face a tough task in convincing the young England midfielder to depart Spurs for United this summer.

Under Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham have become one of the most attractive sides in the Premier League, and they will not be keen to lose some of their best players ahead of another tough Champions League campaign.
