Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli is in line to start for the club in their Carabao Cup match with Barnsley.

Just like at the beginning of last season, Alli has struggled early on this campaign and looked off the pace against Swansea City.

Perhaps it was an effect of missing the big Champions League win over Dortmund in midweek due to suspension that he lacked the intensity of his teammates.

The Mirror report Alli is set to start against Barnsley to try and find his form.

It has been framed on one hand that head coach Mauricio Pochettino is trying to help him, but by another token it appears Alli is being punished.

Being punished not just for his under-par displays, but also as a warning amid ongoing issues around his future amid reports he is seeking a new agent to help him become the club’s highest earner.

Alli is being told, ‘don’t get too big for your boots’, and this is a reminder to the 21-year-old not to get ahead of himself, and to prove his worth.
