How Tottenham Hotspur’s Ben Davies compares to Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso.
Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies has been hailed as a hero after his recent performances for the club this season, but there is still work for him to do.
Davies must continue to lift his game to see off the threat of the returning Danny Rose.
From an attacking perspective he has been a revelation at wing-back, scoring twice and providing two assists in the Premier League.
Defensively Tottenham have been solid, but in comparison to Chelsea rival Marcos Alonso, Davies has room to improve.
Alonso, who netted Chelsea’s winner against Spurs back in August, has posted superior defensive figures, even if the Wales international is a better provider.

Davies has not recorded a single interception in his matches so far, nor has he blocked any shots. Alonso has managed nine combined.
Alonso has also won more tackles, but lags behind his Tottenham rival by a long way when it comes to creating chances.
The difference between the two seems clear, Davies is the better of the two going forward – and Chelsea’s Alonso is the better defender.
Davies has been one of Tottenham’s standout players this season, but he has areas he can improve in if he is to change the statistics which show Alonso makes a more significant defensive contribution than he does.
