The West Ham United starlet is out of contract this summer, but he can’t possibly be offered a new one as it stands.

It doesn’t seem that long ago that West Ham United fans were urging Slaven Bilic, and later David Moyes, to start playing Toni Martinez in Premier League games.

After all, the 21-year-old boasted a phenomenal goalscoring record for West Ham’s youth sides, and by October of last year had scored 23 goals in 26 games since joining from Valencia in 2016.

This led to fans of the East London club slamming Bilic – who was sacked a year ago – for refusing to include him in games of more significance.

Nevertheless, the Spanish hitman is still yet to make a Premier League debut for the Irons in spite of his excellent goal return at youth level – and in truth he might never play for West Ham again.

Martinez is out of contract with the Hammers next summer and simply put he is doing nothing on loan to earn himself a new deal.

The Spain Under-19 star is struggling with Rayo Majadahonda, netting only once in eight second-tier league outings for the Spanish side. Even that goal came way back in August and it’s beginning to look a lot like Bilic was right.

Martinez is a million miles from being ready for Premier League football, and probably never will be. Unless he has a rip-roaring second half to the season for Majadahonda then it’s very difficult seeing United extend his contract.
