Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to react in bemusement after Marcelo Bielsa substituted Rodrigo off for Mateusz Klich against Chelsea earlier.

The Argentine made the ‘strange’ call in the 79th minute, with the Guardian describing the Spaniard as ‘confused’ when walking off the pitch.

What was odd about it?

Well, the Spain international had only entered the fray himself in the 35th minute after Patrick Bamford was withdrawn due to an injury.

It’s unusual to see a substitute come on, and then be withdrawn in the same game, but that’s exactly what happened.

In our view, there are two possible reasons for Bielsa’s decision.

One, the ex-Marseille boss hadn’t planned to give Rodrigo 55 minutes of action as he’s only just come back from injury, so he may have been keen to manage the striker’s game time properly.

Also, Bielsa might’ve decided to respect the point by making a more defensive substitution, against a side who are now unbeaten in their last 13 games.

If that was the case, it worked well as Leeds picked up a decent result against Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Whatever his motives, the Leeds fans certainly weren’t happy with the call at the time.

Let’s see what they’ve been saying about the 79th minute moment…
