Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after Christian Falk told BILD that Naby Keita is demanding a more prominent first-team role.

What’s the story?

Well, Falk believes it’s Keita who is causing the delay in his own contract negotiations.

He said: “It is true that there was an initial discussion with his management; of course, they would like to extend the contract with Keita, but he wants to play for them.

“If he doesn’t join the team soon, there won’t be any further progress in extending his contract.”

Clearly, he claims the 38-cap Guinea international is reluctant to sign a new deal at Anfield as he wants to see more action for the Reds.

The £52.75m man’s current terms expire in June 2023.

When the summer arrives, the Reds will be left in a precarious position if they haven’t yet agreed a new deal with Keita.

No club wants to enter a transfer window with their pricey asset’s value decreasing day-by-day, which is what will happen unless this gets sorted.

So far this season, Keita has made six appearances, scoring one goal.

What can Liverpool do about Naby Keita situation?

If this news is true, then it is downright baffling.

Keita is extremely injury prone, and has already missed 54 games for Liverpool since arriving from RB Leipzig.

In that respect, how can it be Jürgen Klopp’s fault that he doesn’t have a more prominent first-team role?

We’re sure the German would love to play Keita more often, if he was actually available for selection.

It’s down to the 26-year-old to improve his fitness and show Klopp that he is capable of playing on a weekly basis.

Right now, you can understand if Klopp wants to be protective of the Liverpool No.8.

If this is the path Keita chooses to take, he risks angering plenty of people at Anfield, not least the supporters.

Let’s see what they’ve been saying about the situation on Twitter…
