Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to react after Bruno Fernandes spoke about the penalty he scored against them in Manchester United’s 6-1 defeat.
In an interview with Sky Sports, the Portugal international was quizzed on his lack of goal involvements against the traditional ‘top six’.
The £46.5 million maestro is yet to score from open play against one of the big six in the Premier League.
His penalty against Spurs, as Jose Mourinho’s men ran riot at Old Trafford in October, is his only goal against sides of that calibre.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Fernandes hit back by saying: “I scored against Tottenham, but people say penalties don’t count.”
Understandably, his comments have been mocked by Tottenham fans on Twitter.
You can’t really argue that a penalty in a humiliating 6-1 defeat is proof that you can trouble the big boys in front of goal.
Fernandes was also subbed off at half-time in that game by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, so he certainly shouldn’t be using that match in particular as a defence.
One fan said that his comments have to be a joke, while another asked if the 26-year-old was genuinely being serious.
It probably would’ve just been best for the United No.18 to deflect the question and talk about his overall impact for the Red Devils, as his answer has been ridiculed.
