
Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey started for the U-23s last night in a Premier League 2 fixture against Wolves. And the midfielder impressed.
The £12m signing from Swansea City has been out with injury for most of the season. Shelvey played briefly against Tottenham Hotspur before the midfielder was shown a straight red card after coming on as a substitute.
And under caretaker manager Graeme Jones, Shelvey has been sent with the U-23s to regain his fitness for the duration of his suspension. And the 29-year-old put in a good shift.
The Newcastle ace bagged two assists as the Magpies lost 3-2 to Wolves. Yet on social media, supporters were happy with Shelvey’s performance on the night.
Indeed, supporters found humour in one update from the club’s official Twitter account which described one move from Shelvey in the first half as ‘a surging run’.
Yet overall, fans were happy with how Shelvey’s display for the U-23s. Under Jones, the midfielder could regain his first-team spot once his suspension is completed.
