The talented left-back is reportedly on Sunderland’s radar though Rangers had scouted him earlier in the season.

Sunderland manager David Moyes

Sunderland manager David Moyes is attempting to unearth potential bargains in the Scottish second tier, The Chronicle reports, with Falkirk’s highly-rated left-back Tony Gallacher still a potential target.

The manager was left frustrated by the club’s inability to improve their options in the transfer market due to financial restrictions with Darron Gibson, Bryan Oviedo and Jolean Lescott, who all played under Moyes at Everton, the limit of their January additions.

Consequently, Sunderland are still bottom of the Premier League and The Chronicle reports that Moyes has taken to trekking around the Scottish lower leagues in a rather desperate attempt to discover affordable targets for a club that appear to be going nowhere fast.

And this suggests that Gallacher, who Moyes travelled to watch in January, remains at the top of his list of priorities.

The 17-year-old is extremely highly rated and has even been linked with the likes of Barcelona and Manchester United – not to mention Rangers.

Tony Gallacher - Scotland

Herald Scotland claimed in January that the Ibrox giants had been scouting Gallacher for some time with then-manager Mark Warburton hoping to close the gap to Celtic by building a team based on young, homegrown talent.

However, with Pedro Caixinha replacing Warburton at the helm, it is unknown whether Rangers will continue to scour the domestic target or whether the likes of Gallacher are still in the club’s sights.

Though with the club strapped for cash, signing locally-sourced youngsters on the cheap and selling them on for a profit could prove an astute business plan. What is for sure is that Sunderland’s prospects of beating the Gers to the youngster would likely be stronger if they can retain their Premier League status.
