Spurs have been linked with a swap deal that includes Inter Milan defender Danilo D’Ambrosio.
Italian outlet Calcio24 have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could be about to land Inter Milan star Danilo D’Ambrosio, in what could be a swap deal for Mousa Dembele – but will the signing of the Italian force another to leave?
Inter have been long linked with a move for Dembele, with his future at Spurs in doubt as he enters the final 12 months of his contract with Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
A move to Inter is on the cards for ex-Fulham star Dembele, and now the report suggests that Italy international D’Ambrosio could be included in a deal that would see the Spurs man move to Inter.
D’Ambrosio, 29, can play on either side of the defence and starred for Inter during the 2017-18 season in which he scored two goals and turned provider four times in 34 Serie A appearances.
But with Spurs already boasting Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier at right-back, and Ben Davies and Danny Rose on the left side of defence, the signing of D’Ambrosio would only add congestion – especially with Kyle Walker-Peters also looking for game time.
The England youth international managed only eight appearances last season despite breaking into the side, acting as third choice for Pochettino at right-back. He signed a new Spurs deal at the end of the season.
A loan move would make sense for Walker-Peters this summer, in order to continue his development with the player in desperate need of regular football to maximise his potential.
At Spurs, he is unable to receive that, and the signing of D’Ambrosio is only going to decrease Walker-Peters’ chances of failing to achieve regular first-team football.
It should convince Walker-Peters and Spurs that a loan move away from north London and to a Championship or lower Premier League side is that right move for the young star’s career.
