After Sheffield Wednesday’s emphatic and deserved victory over Leeds on Sunday, the likes of Barry Bannan, Gary Hooper and Steven Fletcher, rightfully, took many of the headlines as Carlos Carvalhal’s side strolled to a 3-0 win after their brilliant performances.
But one of their Owls teammates who also put in a fantastic performance, and arguably does not get the credit he deserves is Kieran Lee.
While he is loved by the Hillsborough faithful, it could certainly be argued that the 29-year-old is one of the most underrated and valuable players in the Championship.
Lee proved his quality against Leeds with a stunning finish for Wednesday’s third, and undoubtedly deserved another earlier in the game when his perfectly-timed run and nice finish was unfairly greeted by the offside flag going up.
In truth, the former Manchester United trainee has been one of Wednesday’s most reliable performers since he arrived back in 2012, and has shown during that time that he is capable of playing, and thriving, in several positions across the midfield, contributing a handful of goals and assists each year.
And if Wednesday are to reach the Championship play-off places for a third successive year, you would imagine that Lee’s form would have played a crucial role as he provides the control and that bit of quality in the middle of the park that allows the side to look so threatening going forward.
