Sheffield Wednesday and Brentford are both keen on Barnsley’s Sam Winnall.

Sheffield Wednesday are pushing to sign Barnsley striker Sam Winnall, report the Daily Mail.

The Mail report the Owls have offered £2.5 million for the forward, who has just six months remaining on his current contract.

Winnall has scored 11 goals this season for Barnsley and at 25, he is understandably highly sought after.

Yet the bid submitted by Sheffield Wednesday could be substantially short of Barnsley’s asking price.

Just 24 hours earlier, The Mirror reported that Brentford are lining up a move for Winnall which could cost them as much as £3 million.

Brentford are preparing to move for Winnall as a replacement for Scott Hogan, who is subject of interest from Premier League side West Ham.

The Bees are holding out for a £15 million offer for the striker, a bid they are yet to receive, but this will provide them with ample funds to sign replacements and strengthen their squad.

Sheffield Wednesday’s offer is £2.5 million short of Brentford’s valuation of the Barnsley striker, and if the Bees pursue their interest, Carlos Carvalhal’s side will have to dig deeper.
