Is Sebastian Polter showing QPR were too quick to cash in?

Queens Park Rangers sold Sebastian Polter to Union Berlin after just 18 months in the Championship.

Sebastian Polter has scored more goals in just 13 games for Union Berlin this season than he did in the entirety of his debut season for Queens Park Rangers.

Overall, the German targetman netted just 10 times in 51 Championship appearances for the Loftus Road side – and few QPR fans were too disappointed when the former Mainz striker left to return home in January of this year.

But with QPR in a rather difficult situation of seemingly being in the market for a striker yet being heavily limited by Financial Fair Play restrictions, you wonder whether Ian Holloway’s side should have given Polter more time.

After all, his record since moving to German second tier side Union Berlin has been hugely impressive. Polter has 14 goals in 28 games in the last ten months – an average of exactly one-in-two.

Thanks to his excellent performances in attack, Union Berlin are sitting pretty in third place in the 2.Bundesliga and appear to be in an excellent position to join city rivals Hertha in the German top flight next season.

It’s fair to say Polter has justified his club-record £1.4 million price-tag, per Set Pieces.

With former club QPR stuck down in 16^th place, and with their top scorers managing just four goals so far in 2017/18, Holloway could be forgiven for wondering whether Polter could have been worth keeping around.
