Is Sean Goss threatening to be Rangers’ best January loan signing?

Glasgow Rangers midfielder Sean Goss has probably surprised many with his start to life at Ibrox.

When Rangers completed their quartet of January loan signings with the deal to sign Russell Martin, Gers fans would have been forgiven for thinking that they had made three very shrewd signings and one that was much more of a gamble.

Like with Martin, the deals for Jason Cummings and Jamie Murphy were seen as very good pieces of business, but the signing of Sean Goss may have surprised several of the Ibrox faithful, with the midfielder moving to Rangers having only made six first-team appearances in his entire career.

Kenny Dalglish suggested to The Sunday Post shortly after his arrival that while the other three deals looked smart, it is too difficult to assess Goss given how little he has played during his career.

But after four appearances for the Light Blues, there are just a few signs that hint that Goss may actually turn into the best of the club’s January loan signings if he continues on his current arc.

The 22-year-old has almost been a revelation in the middle of the park, forming a promising partnership with Jason Holt and helping Graeme Murty’s men to three wins out of the four games that he has played in. And in the game that they lost, the former Manchester United trainee scored a fantastic free-kick that looked set to earn Rangers one point at least, before Hibernian quickly bagged the winner.

Of course, the lack of expectation surrounding Goss has probably helped his chances of proving to be a success. But there can be no doubt that the youngster has kicked his Ibrox career off extremely brightly, and he may not be the least inspiring of the four January signings by any means, despite what some may have expected.
