Samuel Saiz joined Leeds United this summer from Huesca.
Leeds United had undergone a massive transformation this summer. Thomas Christiansen replaced Garry Monk as the new manager, and he did bring in players of his choice.
As many as 16 players were signed (this included completing permanent deals of certain players – for example Pontus Jansson and Hadi Sacko) this summer – but who has been the best of the lot?
There have been some good performances from the newcomers, but one player who has outshone the others is undoubtedly Samuel Saiz.
Pierre-Michael Lassoga and Ezgjan Alioski have also impressed, but Saiz has proved to be a different class.
The 26-year-old has joined from Segunda Division club Huesca for a fee in the region of £3m, as reported by The Yorkshire Evening Post. He made an instant impact when he scored a hat-trick in Leeds’ 4-1 win over Port Vale in the EFL Cup.
In doing so, he became the first player to achieve the feat since Carl Shutt in 1989. He scored his first league goal against Sunderland.
Saiz is easily the most creative player in the side. He is always on the lookout for opening for others, and is a technically gifted player.
He makes 2.4 key passes on an average per game, and takes 2.3 shots per game, according to whoscored.com.
His performance against Sunderland, where he also bagged an assist, is easily his best since joining the Yorkshire club. However, he was equally brilliant in games against Burton, Ipswich, and Birmingham.
Saiz is not only proving to be an inspired signing, but is probably the best signing of the summer for Leeds.
