Everton have been woeful defensively so far this season.
Sam Allardyce is set to be appointed as Everton’s new manager and one of his first tasks will certainly be to try and make the Toffees more resilient at the back.
As reported by Sky Sports, Allardyce is set to take charge of his seventh Premier League club, following spells with Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle United, Blackburn Rovers, West Ham United, Sunderland and Crystal Palace.
Whichever club he has been in charge of, Allardyce has carried with him his reputation for overseeing impressive defensive displays.
There is certainly much work required to get Everton performing in such a manner – they have conceded 28 goals in the Premier League this season, more than any other club in the division.
Allardyce will surely look to bring in some new defenders in the January transfer window but until then he must make the most out of rather limited resources.
Given his preference for utilising experienced players, Allardyce will hope to inject new life into the likes of Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams, who have struggled this season.
Allardyce has proven that he is the ideal candidate to make teams more effective defensively and he can have the same impact at Everton.
Last season Crystal Palace were woeful defensively prior to Allardyce’s arrival but he managed to turn matters around and preserve the club’s Premier League status, he did the same thing with Sunderland the season before.
Everton supporters will hope that Allardyce can achieve the same feat at Goodison Park.
