Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers let Ryan Hardie leave on loan, but will he be coming back?

Rangers offloaded young striker Ryan Hardie this week.

The 20-year-old has joined Livingston on loan until the end of the season and it’s a transfer which makes you wonder if his Rangers career is now over.

Hardie joined the Ibrox side in 2014, scoring twice in 18 senior appearances.

But his contract is up at the end of this season and the fact that no extension was signed before the loan to Livingston was sanctioned suggests that the Gers don’t expect him back.

Rangers have already signed Jason Cummings on loan from Nottingham Forest and if that goes well then you have to assume he’ll be staying at Ibrox in the long term.

Given that Graeme Murty also has Eduardo Herrera and Alfredo Morelos at his disposal, he is unlikely to be stuck for striking options come the summer and therefore it seems unlikely that Hardie has a role to play at the club.

It’s a shame, because fans of any team love to see one of their own coming through the academy and making waves in the senior set-up, but it doesn’t look like that will be happening for the young hitman.

The one thing that might save him is if he rips it up at the Almondvale Stadium and scores bags of goals, but given that he only scored 15 times in a combined 44 games from loan spells at Raith Rovers and St Mirren, perhaps a goal-laden stint in the Championship isn’t probable this time around.
