Rangers look set to sign striker Fashion Sakala.

The Daily Record reported last weekend that Sakala was ‘closing in’ on a move to Rangers after Ross Wilson engaged in advanced talks with the 24-year-old.

And the player himself then dropped a massive hint that a move to Ibrox could be imminent by beginning to follow quite a few Gers players on Instagram.

Because Sakala is out of contract with Belgian side Oostende this summer, Rangers will be getting him for free if he does wind up in Glasgow.

But the hitman’s former manager has suggested that his value would’ve been a little over £2 million if not for the two months remaining on his contract.

It was Gert Verheyen who brought the Zambian attacker to Belgium after a stint with Spartak Moscow’s B side.

And the Belgian legend has told The Record: “He was an interesting player and didn’t cost Oostende too much which was vital because it’s a small team in Belgium who had a lot of financial problems. We didn’t have 10 choices of players and we could sign him.

“It was a good transfer for the club because he had a market value of 100,000 Euros and is now worth about 2.5 million Euros so he did progress as a player, that’s for sure.”

Steven Gerrard already has quite a few good strikers on the books, like Kemar Roofe, Alfredo Morelos and Cedric Itten.

And with there being talk of Jermain Defoe extending his spell at Rangers by another year, it’s difficult to see where Sakala – who has 13 goals in Belgian football this season – is going to fit in.

But with him being free, there’s very little for the light Blues to lose here.
