Is Ronald Koeman’s obsession with recruiting a target man at Everton going to cost him as West Ham United near striker deal?
The Hammers are said to be on the verge of completing a deal to sign Mexico and former Manchester United star Javier Hernandez in a bargain £13million deal from Bayer Leverkusen, as reported by the likes of Sky Sports.
Should Slaven Bilic get that deal over the line it would represent something of a transfer coup for the East Londoners and bring to an end an 18 month long search for a quality striker.
Ask any West Ham fan, though, and that ‘if’ is a big if where their club is concerned given their record of being pipped at the post for signings over the years and even as recently as this summer when Henry Onyekuru elected to join the Toffees over the London Stadium side.

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are said to be lurking in the background as the Hernandez deal nears completion.
But is Everton boss Koeman missing a trick in not trying to trump Bilic once again?
The Goodison Park outfit have stolen the show so far in this summer’s transfer window recruiting a plethora of talent including Wayne Rooney, Michael Keane, Onyekuru, Davy Klassen, Jordan Pickford, Sandro Ramirez and Josh Bowler.
Since Romelu Lukaku’s record-breaking move to Manchester United, Koeman has been linked with moves for target men like Olivier Giroud and Soloman Rondon.

But is the Dutchman’s seeming obsession with landing a big forward in the Lukaku going to cost him with a quick and potent finisher in the shape of Hernandez available for what is a bargain fee in the current climate.
Hernandez would fit well with the cult status given to strikers at Goodison and would no doubt relish the service that will be provided by the likes of Rooney, Yannick Bolasie, Klassen and co.
