Romario Vieira is out of contract with Leeds United at the end of the season.

Ronaldo Vieira may have had a disappointing season, but you would struggle to find many Leeds supporters who are not optimistic about what the midfielder could go on to achieve in the future, and desperately hope that he will realise that potential at Elland Road.

While Vieira’s involvement in the first-team came a lot sooner, there was also plenty of hope regarding his twin brother’s future, with Romario Vieira also on the club’s books and featuring regularly for the under-23s.

The 19-year-old’s call-up to the senior side’s bench for a couple of games in the latter stages of Thomas Christiansen’s tenure hinted that he may be in line to follow in his brother’s footsteps. But following Christiansen’s departure, Vieira has been back playing for the under-23s while Callum Nicell has often been the midfielder that Paul Heckingbottom has plucked from the youth ranks to sit on the first-team bench when required.

With transfermarkt showing that Vieira is out of contract at the end of the season, it is surely not out of the question to suggest that his future with Leeds is up in the air – and the last thing he needed was to squander an opportunity that came his way whether that be in the first-team or for Carlos Corberan’s side.

Unfortunately for Romario, he picked up two yellow cards and was sent off in the under-23s’ penultimate league game of the season on Friday night. It was the kind of mistake that he surely did not need to make if he wants to earn a new deal at Thorp Arch.

Leeds may decide that they have still seen enough in Vieira to hand him fresh terms at the end of the campaign, but if they did choose to keep him on, it may perhaps be the club deciding to take more of a gamble in the hope he may kick on further in future in the same way that the Whites seemingly recruited Ouasim Bouy last summer.

But after his red card against QPR last week, it does appear that the dream of seeing the Vieira brothers playing alongside each other in the middle of the park for the first-team may be fading.
